KILDARE
Historic Attractions
The Steam Museum
The Steam Museum is located in a fine Victorian gothic building where a wide collection of Early Inventor's models, Scientific Engineering Models, and Historic Works of Mechanical Art are on display.
The first railway in Ireland opened way back in 1834, and the network quickly reached nationwide. By 1920 nearly 3,500 miles of track threaded the countryside and no Irish town was more than 10 miles from a railway station showing that Ireland has a deep and vast history in the Railway and Steam Trains.
There is also an 18th Century walled garden located beside the Museum and it has been under restoration for the last few years. It has become a relaxed and refreshing area where one can wander or take in a refreshment from the nearby Steaming Kettle Tea House and or purchase a Souvenir or Gift from the Gift Shop.
